Well i have searched high and low and nothing can fix my dell laptop, it was fine running vista but a little slow so i asked a friend to install xp for me, i watched him delete all partitions on the drive then create a new one, then told it to install xp on the new drive, does the first installation half, then restarts and comes up with, unmountable boot volume, i have done the chkdsk /p and fixboot, in recovery console, to no avail, any help would be greatly appreciated!

you need to go to the dell site and find all the info on your laptop and supply drivers for your laptop model to operate on xp
when going backwards to an old os you need to have a complete cleaned HDD of all data..
