I'm trying to uninstall McAfee Virus Scan and all of it's components. I cannot delete the program by going to the control panel and nothing else I've tried is working. I'm posting my latest Hijackthis log, just in case it helps. Any advice would be appreciated.

1. Uninstall McAfee VirusScan from the Add/Remove Programs list in the Control Panel.

2. Open the C:\Program Files folder, then delete any leftover McAfee, VirusScan, and Network Associates folder(s).

3. Do a "find - files and folders" for McAfee and VirusScan, then delete any files that appear.

4. Click Start - Run, type in REGEDIT, then click OK. Click the + in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Software

In the "Software" sub-menu of both keys, look for a McAfee, VirusScan, or Network Associates folder(s). Right-click directly on that folder, then click Delete- Yes.

Doing the above 4 steps in the order listed will get rid of 99.9% of McAfee VirusScan from your computer.

You don't have the SP1 upgrade to Internet Explorer 6.0.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are a few programs loading during startup and running in the background that don't have to be. The smaller the startup list is kept, the better a computer will run, especially an older slower one.

Just go to the McAfee web site and they have a step by step set of instructions on how to get everything associated with their product out of your computer. I thought I had it on a disk here but can't find it. Only be wary of one thing. They tell you to export the whole registry and that is not the way the Export should be used. Nothing above a Sub Key should be Exported as this can and has caused major problems when someone tried to resore a mistake. If you want to save the complete registry then use a back up.

Flavallee, I followed all four steps. I'll reboot to see if they have worked. I just had a couple of follow-up questions:
How/where can I get the "SP1 upgrade to Internet Explorer 6.0"?

Which programs do you recommend I stop from running at start-up?

Thanks again.
