Hello All,

I noticed that when you use either the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs or an uninstaller to remove software lots of bits get left behind.

For example, if you RUN SERVICE.MCR you will find files in the Registry. Also, IE7 browser add-ons. Some of these items can't be deleted - only disabled.

I have run into problems with all this "regsam" before - from start-up to shut-down problems. Registry Cleaners don't detect and delete them either.

Just curious, why is this?

Thanks

It has been an problem in Windows for years. My own opinion is it is poor programming by the various software manufacturers. I do not think dead entries in the reg file use any resources, but if you are fastidious, then the only way is either with a reg cleaner (I use Reg Supreme) or manually delete the unused entries in the two Software items in the reg edit.(Under HCU and HLM) Unless you are very familiar with the regedit, it's best left alone.

I would love to find a good uninstaller, but until I do I will continue to use my Tune Up Utilities Program which uninstalls better than Windows, but not good enough. But it is a great program that does numerous things and does them all very well except uninstall. If you are going to have to manually remove the bits and pieces Tune Up Utilities will find alot more of the left over program than Windows and it's much easier to remove the garbage. You can get Tune Up Utilities at wugnet.com/affiliates/archives/pcworld Use Google search. Click offer details for $10.00 off of the $39.99 price. A little pricey but worth every penny.
