Uninstall IE from XP...HELP PLEASE

765 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  b4uv1
My IE is pretty screwed up, the upper tool bar is only partly visible, the lock the tool bar option is no longer there AND IT'S LOCKED, and some buttons don't work when clicked on, plus it's crashing every few min. I have all the latest updates and have run both spybot and ad-aware, I've looked all over and can't find how to uninstall it, Stop-Sign.com has a removal tool but XP is not supported. I tried the add/remove programs and I used to have a feature that said it would repair IE but it's no longer there either, I'm using Mozilla to type this in because IE is so messed up...HELP

If you want to completely uninstall internet explorer w/outlook express should be able to do this from the control panel/install uninstall programs.
I think this is a job for "Hijack This" but in the mean time see if this works.

Well I did what theeldergeek suggested at the site above and got it uninstalled but when I tried to reinstall IE6 I got this error... (The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing and will not be installed) Go figure!!!
It has to be a virus or trojan thats behind it.Get "Hijack This" and post the log here.
Well I've ran both Norton and AVG anti-virus and found nothing, might just be a good time to install the new 120 GB harddrive I bought a while back to replace the factory 40 GB and do a fresh install of everything.
You can try and repair IE. Go HERE and follow the instructions. Have all these IE problems appeared at once? Maybe you should try System Restore. On the other hand, a new hard drive and clean install is always a problem solver. :D
This webage should help. It covers XP,Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express reinstall and/or repair step-by-step.
