I have windows XP home edition, and my windows updates dont seem to work. I want it to notify me, but dont download or install them. Whenever I go to start>control panel>system>automatic updates, i put a dot next to the notify me, then click apply, and okay, then if i go back to it, it is switched back to "turn off updates". Anyone know what this is? Thanks
Pat

Can't help ya there, but I can't stand that automatic update bull crap. It pops up like every time you start the computer, and doesn't leave you alone. I've had mine off for over a year...no problems so far :)

Go to Control Panel> Performance and Maintenance> Administrative Tools> double click Services> right click on Automatic Updates and select properties> in the Start up type make sure it is set to Automatic.

Augie65, it is set to Automatic. It was when I went there, any other ideas?
The only other thing that I can think of is, you have to be Administrator to configure automatic updates. Are you sure that you are logged on as administrator? I can't think of anything else.
