I have two suggestions:

1. We are nearing that time of the year when the TSG clock gets adjusted to Daylight Saving Time. One effect of that adjustment is that the line at the bottom of the page that says "All times are GMT." becomes "All times are GMT+1." Another effect is that a flurry of posts always gets submitted about whether the time being displayed is correct or not. In order to preempt those posts and because the world does not operate in unison on DST, I suggest that the TSG time remain set to GMT (aka UTC) year-'round. Do not change it to GMT+1 when Daylight Saving Time is thrust upon some of us. Those who want to see their correct local time can adjust the time offset in their personal profile, just as those members who are in Arizona, most of Indiana, and much of the rest of the world must do if TSG displays GMT+1.

2. Add the server timestamp (dateline) in a comment line near the top of each downloaded page.

Followed by two notes:

1. Don't start a poll on this idea. My observation of TSG polls indicates that the number of responses relative to the number of active posting members is usually so small that the results of the polls are statistically meaningless. And, besides, I know ahead of time that I would be out-voted. :D

2. Both suggestions are based on totally selfish motives. ;)

I think it's best not to do this, because what I think you are suggesting is that we change the physical time of the server, which is located in Penn, which observes DST. I think it would be better to keep the server at the time it should be, and adjust each individual time displays like we always have.

Otherwise, we might just start messing with relativity...;)

Sounds good to me. :)

I know on the one time change there is the hour that we out West here can not see are post or other post for an hour after it has been posted.

We have posted on this trouble before in the pass so doing what you said should also keep that from happing.

ummm... you would need a pop up to ask whether you want to use DST or not. Otherwise, you would have alot of freaked out newbies. That may require a "little bit of work". I would'nt really mind it, but if it is a hasssle to Mike, then i say you strange people in arizona should try to change your clocks.

Well, I think it's that one half of Indiana that we really need to worry about. ;)

It's up to Mike really; either way, I don't care.

I live in Arizona. I have to change my online clocks to adjust. Where as I do not have to adjust any of my physical clocks. The time stays the same here year round. We just switch from Mountain/Pacific time depending on the time of the year (right now on Mountain, a 2 hour difference from east coast; will be going to Pacific, a 3 hour difference from east coast).

I don't have a problem with forcing other members to also have to change their time! :D

It looks like the default time displayed by vB3 at the bottom of each page is now Eastern Time rather than GMT. But this is sort of irrelevant because user's can cause vB3 to display whatever time they wish by setting their time zone appropriately. For example, if I set my time zone to GMT -1, the time displayed is GMT +0 because the TSG server is currently set to daylight saving time. Therefore, I withdraw my first suggestion in the initial post in this thread. If I had thought about it a little more, I never would have made that suggestion in the first place. My second suggestion still stands, however.

Too soon old; too late smart....
