No offense but the ads hosted on the TSG ad server are HUGE. They should be standard banner size not HUGE, they're too intrusive when they're huge and people like me are more likely to click them if they're not intrusive and are normal banner size. Also, why not put google ads in the top and bottom ad rotation too?

I agree with dsluser. The HUGE ads are extremely intrusive, and the side banners take about 3 inches of space off right side of screen, plus it looks to me as if the font sizes have now been reduced to "squint at the screen" level for posts and the Forum listings page, plus the User CP - FAQ strip, and instead of being in a easy place to find as on the old Board, "New Posts" stuck in the middle of a bunch of other stuff now, and there's no way (at present) to clear the post's in "New Posts" like you could in the old Board.

I like consistancy of font size and style when viewing webpages, but I don't expect every webpage out there to change their fonts to suit me!

What I like is "smaller" text size and Tahoma font. Therefore I use Accessibility option in IE. Voila! One size (and font) fits all! :D

The ads aren't huge on my screen (1600x1200). Perhaps the ads are a constant size and thus look larger at lower resolutions...

Anyway, the ads are approximately the same size as they were before the VB3 upgrade.

The Ads are Much larger now than they were on the old Board.
I'm using the same resolution here as on the old one, and there is no doubt in my mind that the ads are MUCH larger
-- they take away close to 5" at top, and about 3" on the right side of the screen, and the fonts in the replys & on the page listing the Forums & topics are noticably smaller now & harder to read.

A BIG annoyance is the constant flashing of text in the boxes on the page listing forums/topics. I hope THAT will vanish soon!

Another irritation is that you cant go back to the New Posts page without it resetting. For example, I answered this post, then went back to the New Posts page & itd reset. On the old one you could click a tab that would allow you to clear the "New Posts" section when you were thru, but this new Board does not allow you to do so.

I logged out and came back here and seen the ads at the top.
Some were a lot bgger then others. Hate the real big ads too.
But I did not see any ads on the side at all.
Was here with netscape 7 and IE 6.

Hewee, do you have any full screen shots that include the side ads from vb2? When vb3 first started here, they were exactly 40 pixels larger. They're now exactly the same size as before the upgrade... although people are still complaining. The top ad is now 30 pixels higher, but that's unfortunately the new standard size for banner ads. I'd hardly call 30 pixels intrusive... maybe I should get rid of it and just have pop-ups and float-over animations. :) And, don't forget, it's still only $20 to get rid of them! http://www.techguy.org/how2help/donate.html

I'm with ya Mike . . .

Folks, we have 2 options, make sure donations coming in to Mike cover the cost of running this site, or click on the ads and support Mike that way.

Complaining that ads are on a free site is stupid, and annoying.

Pay, click, or leave . . . you have the power.

I wonder, when y'all were small, and sat on Santa's lap, and got the free toy, did you complain that it wasn't the right color, or the right size, orr what??

Sorry Mike, this attitude just annoys me, and if they are allowed to post it, I'm allowed to respond to it.

some of the ads are larger than others. One goes from the E in tech to the s in easiest(i like the moto) Then another goes from the p in support to the midway between the Guy and the moto. I almost wish they were all the same size, but then it would be larger.

I did not have ANY side ads MIke.
I did after I post the image above look at my cookies for this site in Netscape 7.
It showes a break down of all the parts. But I had seen more then are in the screen shot here. Sorry I did not get a picture of it. I then deleted that cookie for TSG and came back and I seen the ads on the side. Again I used both Netscape 7 and IE 6 where I did not see the side ads but after deleting only the cookie from Netscape did the side ads show up in netscape and IE. I had more cookies for your site before I delete it. Can'e remember but I think there 3 or 4 more then now. What made me think there may be something wrong was you see the one tsgpassword. Well there was another one that had password in the name and I think for the user ID etc. Pays to take a screen shot before deleting but to late now. I used Norton unerase last night and got the old cookie back but it did not show up the same so I guess what ever was cleared out some how after loging back in.
Then after playing around loggin in and out going from netscape to IE the side ads were gone again. Maybe a setting I have is blocking them from what ever address.
I can play around later and see if I can find out or try to find out what is going on with the side ads.

On the other ads at the top and I guess the bottom that I did not look at.
Some real big like in my post above and other were smaller. So are you saying they are all one size? Well get screen shots later on the two sizes.

ok, here's an example of one of the big ads I find annoying:
, I say get rid of the big intrusive ads and replcace 'em with something more settle and nicer like perhaps replace it and just have all your ads be google ads, those aren't intrusive and are often of interest too.

I believe Google only allows one set of their ads per page, but could be wrong. We're going to keep the new layout, but thanks for the suggestion.

the only thing I find annoying about the new layout is when the cursor passes over a topic the first line of the post pops up. If the subject of the thread seems interesting I will click on it, seeing the first line won't make any difference as to whether I view the thread.

Hex, have your daddy cough up $20 bucks for you, and your problems will be solved ;)
yeah but you also want to make your site pleasent for noobs too ;) , for some a big fat ad in front of their eyes right when they first access the forum might be a bit intimidating and some might just leave. Techguy: Oh yeah, google does only allow one ad banner per page *damn*, would be a great idea otherwise though IMO. Just don't see why you have to have such big ads on your adserver, while all the others like adburst are still using the standard size which is just fine.

I'm confused by how someone who's member status is "Account Disabled" can post so much?
