Trying to access an old HP Mediasmart ex475

Hi there,

I have an old Mediasmart ex475 I've just taken out of storage after a few years. I need to access it to recover our wedding and other family photographs that are stored in it. Any help at all would be appreciated.

Currently when I turn it on, I have a blue power light, and a blue flashing health light. No drive lights are on. Also, I'm not sure how to connect to it from my W10 computer, and don't have the original install disks.

It's a while since I've attempted to sort out this kind of thing, so any advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Flashing lights usually means no good. What Windows is the old machine using? If the machine is not booting all the way to the desktop, then you probably need to insert that Windows version DVD and do a Repair (not install). If you don't have the disk, ask your friends.

Did you move the old computer? Moving it might have jolted some parts loose inside. Open the case door and firmly insert the video card and ram pieces. Then check that cables to the hard drive is snugly attached at both ends. Be mindful of static electricity as it can kill ram, if you have carpeted floors, do this on a wooden floor or washroom tiled floor.
Your easiest course, IMHO (In My Humble Opinion), would be to take the hard disk drive out of the HP, connect it as a second drive to your new PC, and to then copy over the files you want in Explorer.
Are you comfortable with doing that?
