I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS 2000 SERVER. A FEW WEEKS AGO, I TRIED TO REFORMAT THE HARD DRIVE, WIPING OUT WINDOWS 98, BUT WHEN I TRY TO INSTALL WINDOWS 2000, IT WOULD ASK ME TO FORMAT C: AND I SAY YES SO WHEN I DO IT WOULD PAUSE FOR A SECOND AND THEN SAY THAT THE HARD DRIVE MAY BE DAMAGED, IAND THEN IT WOULD REBOOT ITSELF AND I HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN. THEN I TRY TO GO THE REPAIR CONSOLE AND FIGURE IT OUT, WHEN I DID I FOUND OUT THAT THE SPACE ON THE HARD DRIVE WAS MOVED TO THE D: DRIVE, AND THE C

RIVE HAD NO SPACE AT ALL, AND THE BAD PART IS I DON'T HAVE A D: DRIVE. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME OUT?

Sounds like you may have some bad sectors on your disk. I would run fdisk, delete any partitions, then create one or more partitions, format each partition. Run scandisk from a boot disk and see if you have any bad sectors. It will take a while to do a full scan of your drive. After you are done set your machine to boot off of the cd. Win2k will give you the option of formatting the drive as an ntfs.

I have run into the same problem, and it was a simple fix. I boot the computer and let the windows 2000 CD take over. One of the first things it asks is where do you want to install...then it lists all available partitions and free space.
I deleted all partitions, then created a new one. The install goes fine.
I think that the problem is because sometimes the partitions created by FDISK aren't recognized...probably because they are FAT16. W2K may not read them properly, I don't know. Anyway, that is how I got past your problem.

I DIDN'T TRY TO FDISK IT FROM THE WINDOWS 2000 INSTALLATION CD BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO ACCESS FDISK FROM THE CD, I TRIED TO DELETE THE PARTITIONS AND DID EXACTLY THAT BUT IT STILL SAYS THAT THERE ARE BAD SECTORS ON THE HARD DRIVE AND WON'T LET ME GO ANY FARTHER.

Unfortunately, FDISK doesn't come with the W2K CD. I actually meant the partitioning section of the W2K installation.
Do you have any diagnostic software that you can boot from, for example Norton Utilities, that will allow you to scan the disk? That should tell you whether you have physical bad spots on the disk. If that is the case, I'm afraid you may be out of luck.

Y'know, if I were in your shoes, I would probably try reinstalling Win98...just for kicks. If 98 goes on, you know your disk is ok. THEN try W2K again and see what happens.

SEE THE THING IS THAT ALL OF THE GIGABYTES ARE ON THE D: DRIVE AND THERE ARE 0 BYTES ON THE C: DRIVE, WHEN I TRY TO FDISK IT FROM THE WINDOWS 98 CD, IT WILL ALLOW ME TO SELECT AN ITEM FROM THE ORIGINAL MENU, THEN IT WILL SAY "NUMBER OF FIXED DISK: 1"0, THEN IT WILL GO NO FURTHER. I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON
