Alright I Just set up a computer in my room. It has windows xp on it and I am trying to connect to my actiontec MI424WR. At first it was saying that I had limited connectivity and that I didn't have a IP address. Now it's still saying that I have limited connectivity and that my IP address is 168.254.x.x and when I try to renew the IP address it won't do it.

I actually think that address is 169.254.x.x, right? Sounds like you aren't seeing the router.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make and model of the broadband modem.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make/model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc.

On any problem computer, I'd also like to see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Disable encryption and try to connect the wireless. Assuming success then re-enable encryption.

Use WPA-PSK (or WPA2) if possible. If you have to use WEP use a HEX key, not an ascill passcode that sometimes gets translated differently by different devices.

The Actiontec MI424WR supports WPA and WPA2. I've had both the original, and now a Rev.C model.
