i have a problem with two trojans that i cant remove, one is in c:\windows\system32\videocntl.exe
the other is in c:\programfiles\internetoptimizer\optimize.exe
the antivirus finds them (4 all together) but cant heal them or put them in the virus vault, i have tried deleting them and they wont allow access
the name that comes up is trojan horse downloader crypte.c
i have tried using trojan hunter and tds 3 but they find nothing but i still keep getting the message from the antivirus resident shield telling me they are there, this is on my friends new p.c

Do this:
go to http://www.lurkhere.com/~nicefiles/ , and download 'Hijack This!'.....
Unzip it to its own folder, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

If you have anything disabled by MSConfig or any other startup manager, please re-enable it before scanning to post.

OK. Download Spybot and Adaware from the following locations.
Run both programs and clean up what it finds. If you would like to learn more about how to use these two programs you can read the tutorials in my signature.

Spybot

Ad-aware

Run these two programs with the settings found in the tutorials found here:
Spyware Tutorials

Clean everything that those two programs find.

Then rerun HijackThis and post a new log.

It is important that you run Spybot and Adaware before you fix things with HijackThis. Otherwise you may leave behind unwanted files on your computer.

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

First in safe mode click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now find and delete:

The C:\Program Files\Open Site folder
The C:\Program Files\CASTBO~1 folder (See *Note below)
The c:\windows\system32\sncntr.exe file
The c:\windows\system32\mdmdll32.exe file

*Note: I have no way of knowing the exact name of this folder, but the first six lettes in the folder name will be CASTBO.
