McAfee found a trojan called start page but can't delete or quarantine it, I get a message saying it is write protected. Spybot and Noadware do not find it at all. Also I have a blue warning page at start up that says security warning fatal error. Can you please help.
Thank You.

Hi and welcome to TSG,

Please do this. Click here: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files/hijackthis_sfx.exe
to download HijackThis.

Close all open windows and open HijackThis. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished, the scan button will change to “Save Log”. Click on “Save Log” and then save it to Notepad. Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.

DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET, most items that appear in the log are harmless or even needed.

http://www.derbilk.de/SpSeHjfix109.zip

Download 'SpSeHjfix'.zip from the above link to the desktop and then
right click a blank part of desktop & select new folder, call it spfix
unzip the file into that folder.

Disconnect from the net and Close ALL OPEN PROGRAMS.

Run 'SpSeHjfix'. and click on "Start Disinfection".

When it's finished it will reboot your machine to finish the cleaning process.
The tool creates a log of the fix which will appear in the folder.

If it doesn't find any of the SE files or any hidden reinstallers it will say system clean and not go on to next stage.

Now run the Shredder - Hit The FIX button!

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and the log that was created by 'SpSeHjfix'.

I am not able to unzip. Moving from my computer to a new folder on the desktop does not work, right clicking and selecting extract all (no such command there, help menu advice), using windows explorer, click file, select properties, select advance settings (no such command there, micorsoft website advice). I have Windows Me 2000, what am I missing?

If you are still struggling with your StartPage, have a look at Trojan Remover;http://www.simplysup.com/tremover/

It has ten variants of StartPage in its database, and the 30 day trial is supposed to be fully functional. As you have ME, you could create a Restore point before trying it (although that would probably mean you would retain the trojan if you used the restore point!).

If you do try it, be sure you have the June 30th definitions and read all the instructions carefully.
