Recent events brought my need for a means to translate a language foreign to me . There were possibly many idioms/slang used. Google didn't work for me very well. Perhaps this thread would be a good place to post software and web site translators that have been useful. If anyone has favorite translation tools , please post them. :)

Thanks mtbird. Both URL's go into my new favorites folder: Translators
Just curious stoner, how did you search google? Did you type in the actual words or did you ask google to find you a good site? I would think if you asked google to find you a good site it would've worked to an extent.

(Not trying to bash your suggestions either mtbird ;))
Hi deh:

For instance-At an Italian site, I used first the translated version that Google offered. Then I used Google's beta translator on the original . I copyied and pasted scripts into the appropriate window. The Google beta translator is:

http://translate.google.com/translate_t

I didn't post it because it wasn't consistant with Google's own "URL"(translate this page).

What are you using and how well does it work with idioms/slang?
Tell ya what...I have used translators (commercial programs and freebie sites) and it seems none of them do all that great in the translation...HOWEVER: I simply went to some chat rooms (Yahoo chat is a good one) and located country/regional chat rooms and found folks who were willing to give me an email addy...I sent the doc. to them, they translated and returned...free, friendly and a great way to do stuff! Give that a try...bet you'll be amazed at hgow very helpful people are! :)
