I have a number of spreadsheets originally created in Microsoft Office v5.0. These spreadsheets have now been saved to floppy disk. (Operating system Windows NT4).

I now have a new pc which runs Microsoft Works v7.0 (the operating system is Windows XP Pro).

For some reason, the spreadsheets from Office version 5.0 will not open on my new pc.

We have also tried installing Excell V. 7.0 separately but this hasn't worked.

We have tried opening the spreadsheets on our home pc as well but on each occasion we get the following message:

FILE FORMAT IS NOT VALID.

Can anyone suggest what we might be doing wrong or how to overcome this problem?

Many thanks

Keith

If you can get to your old system, or any system, to open the files, then save it in .csv format (Comma Separated Values).

Every spreadsheet program (that I can think of) can open .csv files.
You will lose any formatting but that is preferable to not being able to open the file at all, isn't it?
