We recently "upgraded" to Word 2003. We have a letter done in Word that we email to several hundred students. The problem we are having since upgrading to Word 2003 is that when the letter is received, it opens with "Final Showing Markup" on the Display Review box, thereby displaying the tracked changes in red. Is there a way to have this document default to open to "Final" so changes that were made are not visible? I've tried turning everything off in the Tools, Options, Track Changes tab, but that did not help. I've also tried changing the Display Review box to "Final" and saving the document, but when it's opened again, it reverts back to showing the changes again (even though Track Changes are still off). Any help is greatly appreciated, since we need to send this letter out, but don't want the students to see a marked up version. Thanks!

(I hope I explained the problem in a way that makes sense.)

"final showing markup"

That's because...

In OUTLOOK (believe it or not), there's a setting (you'll have to look, sorry) that says something like "when you send emails with attachments" send them as "whatever".

Change the WHATEVER or uncheck it. I forget which. It may even be in Word's Tools-Options, General tab, then Email options button.

But somewhere it says to email it that way....sorry, my 2003 trial just expired today. :(

In Outlook, I saw an option that says:

"Add properties to attachments to enable Reply with Changes".

It is currently unchecked. Is this the item you were referring to? I didn't see anything in Word under the E-mail options, General Tab, except for HTML options. Those are as follows:

None: Keep all formatting options (largest file size).

Medium: Remove some formatting options (reduced file size).

High: Remove all formatting information from the message. The message will display differently in e-mail programs that do not support cascading style sheets.

It is currently set to "High" on my computer.

Thanks for your help.

Forgot to also state that the Word document itself opens with the tracked changes displayed. We would like it to NOT display that way. The only way I found to accomplish this was to change the settings for Balloons, Use Balloons (Print and Web Layout) to "Never". Is there a way to have Track Changes settings set for individual documents? Or is it basically all documents or none?

P.S. I'm really HATING this track changes "feature".
