Hello, A year ago I purchased a Tecra 8100 laptop on ebay. It came with Windows 98 and it has a DVD/CD player. The laptop came with no disks whatsoever. I reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP Pro. The cd works fine but the DVD does not recognize a DVD disk. When a DVD is loaded in the tray, it spins and makes a clicking noise. After 30 seconds, everything stops and nothing happens. There are not many programs on the computer and I believe that the certain software or firmware that is needed to make the DVD work properly is missing. What do you suggest I can do to fix the DVD drive?
Thank You.

Windows XP does not support DVDs, never has. You have to get third-party software in order to use the DVD player on your system.

Here's the good thing. Install any DVD player, and all players on your system, including Windows Media Player, will be able to play DVDs.

Thank you for the information. Is there a free DVD player available or do I have to purchase one? Can you please recommend one that will work with the Toshiba? Thanks Again.
