Hello All,
I'm running a 800Mhz PIII and Win Me w/256MB RAM. The Aida utility says I have 100% RAM utilization (0 free RAM) and am using 190MB of Swap space- and I have no programs open!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this thing run a bit faster? I've enclosed my HijackThis log in case the problem lies in there.
Thanks for the help...

You have way too many programs running in the background, which is sapping system resources and bogging down your computer. Other than ScanRegistry, SystemTray, StateMgr, PCHealth, your antivirus program, and your firewall program(if you have one), very little else needs to be running in the background. Click the link before and read the article on MSCONFIG.

I'll let someone else more knowledgeable respond to your HijackThis log.

Thanks flavallee...I pared all programs down to a minimum, per your suggestions, with System Configuration Utility, applied, and rebooted. It made about 5 or 6 megs difference but I am at least a couple of hundred MB more than I should be, so there must be something else that is eating all the memory.
I probably should have mentioned in the first post that I have run Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Spysweeper and PC-cillin scans which removed a couple of minor things but am still left with what is in the HijackThis log.
Any ideas?

I'll leave your HijackThis log to someone who's knowledgeable about what to remove from it. I'm not. Since you've trimmed down your startup load, you should post a new HijackThis log.

Thanks flavallee...I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. Except for your help, there doesn't seem to be much response...
But here is the current HJT log. I've looked up and understand which processes to stop from running with the System Configuration Utility, but I don't know about all of the other things in the log, like all of the download/install stuff. And the HJT "Help" section, such as it is, doesn't provide much guidance to a newbie like me. If you check an item and click "fix checked", does it permanently delete it or just stop it from running at startup? And where do all of these other programs reside? If you can't get to them thru the System Configuration Utility, how do you manipulate them, other than HJT?
The more I write, the more questions I come up with, so I had better stop now. I apologize for the long ,rambling post but hope some brave soul can venture some enlightenment.
Thanks

Read my article, "MSCONFIG - Reduce Your Startup Load", and click the link to the Pac's Portal site. It has the best and most extensive list of programs which load during startup. It describes each program and tells you whether it's safe to disable it or not. Other than the ones that I previously mentioned, very few others need to remain checked and enabled. You can check or uncheck programs at will in MSCONFIG. This procedure does not permanently delete them. The "Fix Checked" button in HiJackThis is a different story. You don't want to do this until someone knowledgeable tells you to.
