Thunderbird vs. AVG vs. Windows 10

915 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  etaf
I have been running Thunderbird for years, mostly with Windows 7, but now I have a new computer running Windows 10. I successfully moved my complete profile across from Windows 7, as well as moving my complete Firefox profile, as I have done before. But when Thunderbird started trying to download new messages, it went on and on with the little green bar effectively spinning its wheels. It never got anywhere.
I subsequently downloaded free AVG and Thunderbird was immediately blocked by their firewall. Couldn't see where to make an exception for Thunderbird - turned the firewall off - back to spinning its wheels.
This is all getting so silly. Please can someone help.

how did you move the profile?
have you re-setup the thunderbird accounts ?

i have moved thunderbird onto w10 ok

remove avg and use the removal tool
Once Thunderbird had set up a new W10 profile folder I renamed the profile folder from W7 that I'd saved onto an external drive, and then - GOTTIT! I copied the old folder over the top of the new folder.
Just did it again by renaming the old folder + 1, saving it alongside the new folder, deleted the new folder and renamed the old folder -1 and it worked. Thankyou. you made me think.
Also removed AVG. Never liked them anyway
you are welcome

have a look at avast, avira free antivirus
note w10 has windows defender by default
