I noticed that when I was uploading some files via CuteFtp that there was a file in the directory called 'thumbs.db', but when I looked at the directory using Windows Explorer, it wasn't there. I took a look around my hard drive using CuteFtp and found that these things were everywhere! What are they, where did they come from and how do I stop them from being generated?

The thumbs.db is created when you view the contents of folder in the thumbnail , icons or tiles orientation.

They are created, and can be deleted after you are finished the view. it is esentially a system file, but is created in use.

If you dont want them to appear, then you can choose to list,or detail insted of thumbnail, tiles or icons and I think it shouldnt be created.

Ok, I've turned on the viewing for system files and I can now see them. Thanks for the explanation.
