Any information about third party ink cartridges. Are they comparable to the OEMs' in terms of reliability, color and longevity of images as in fading of images. Are there any recommendations with ink suppliers?

Yes they are compatible and (most) work quite well.

Epson has waterproof ink, so if you have an Epson, and you needed that feature, then you would not get it with an aftermarket ink cart.
