The Sims 2 uninstall problem

I've read the post on this site about the general problems with the sims 2. I figured i'd be more specific with the problem so that it would be easier to help. Previously i was able to play the sims 2 and a few expansion packs with no problems at all. Only after using the system restore on my computer for a different reason, did i have to re-install all the games. I tried playing the game, but only recieved a giant red X on an error message that gave no explanation to the problem. I then tried uninstalling the expanions packs and had no problems. However when i clicked to remove the orignal sims 2 game, it told me i had to uninstall the expansion packs first.

The specs on my computer are fine, and nothing has changed since i was able to play the game last. I tried undoing the system restore as well with no luck. I've searched the sims 2 website itself, as well as many other message boards and can find nothing on this problems. Does anyone know how to help please?

I'm also having the same problem with my game. I had tried uninstalling the game, because it was rarely used anymore and i wanted to free the disk space. I uninstalled the expansion packs without a problem, but when i tried uninstalling the Sims 2 it told me I needed to uninstall the expansions packs before i could. I have searched my computer multiple times to find any traces of the sims expansions but with no luck. Have you figured out how to fix this? If so could you give me a hand here?
