As above, a "text file" is simply a data file.

The CD (and the hard drive) stores all files in digital format, irrespective of their origin and nature.

The CD would not know or care if a file was text, image or program binary code.

Your only limitations (with any data file) is that by nature any CD based file is "read only" so whatever you are going to use to view the text file will be unable to modify it on the CD.

A text file read by a CD player?

No, what you appear to be wanting is text-to-voice, this will not be accomplished by storing a text file on a CD.

You would need to find an application capable of conversion of text - to - speech, have the output recorded and that recording converted to a .wav file. Not a simple operation.

It's going to be a combination of programs, I suspect.

One to "read" the text, such as a Word Processor or Adobe Reader if the text was PDF based, and onother to capture the voice stream, perhaps Audacity or similar.

I am unaware of any "all in one" applications.

Since my last post I have come across several programs that claim to do what I'm asking. They can be found at tucows.com/preview/322007.

Does anyone know anything about these programs? Do they really work?

Well, given that the price is $0 (free) it will cost the same amount to try and see I guess.

I see no reason why they would not work, and the output is exactly what you want.
