Hello,
First Post Ever. After I delete the temp int files, cookies and clear history, there are still files left in the IE5 folders in local settings and in the temp int files folder. They are there but I cannot see them. Why can I not see them and how can I change this. Can I delete these hidden files?
The only way I have found to delete them is:
start>find files, then go through them alphabetically and delete individually from the temp int files and local settings. Also. If I have a file that was "created" after I purchased and started using my computer, this is not part of the original soft or hardware, correct?
Any suggestions,
Sincerely,
Bay

Go to start>shutdown>restart in MS-DOS. Once there type this and hit enter after each.

smartdrv
deltree/y tempor~1
deltree/y cookies
deltree/y history
exit

You dont have to do the history and cookies.

I am new to this site. Thank you very much for the reply Doyce. If I do that in MS-DOS mode, does this do the same thing as deleting the files from the int options window? Or does this delete all the hidden files? Why can I not see these files?
Sorry to be a nuisance Doyce, so bear with me.

One of the problems with the deltree approach is that you also delete 'good' cookies, like those that assist you on Tech Guy Forums for assistance.
There are good cookies and bad cookies of course and I like to keep mine down to a minimum. I usually only keep those that reference to sites I have password or account access to.

If you have been deleting cookies direct from C:\Windows\Cookies you will leave ther associated links in your TIF folder. The trick is to clear them from there first.

I suggest you only delete cookies using something like Cookies Manager, an excellent free download from the creators site:

http://home/nordnet.fr/

This is such a simple, small and effective app that I wouldn't be without it now.

PS - try a search for Tempory Internet Files on the TSG Forums - you will find a wealth of previously posted info on this entire subject.

First resort for all queries should always be a search 'cos there's loads of excellent answers already here - no waiting in hope!

Best of luck.

Long live the duck!

Hiya

One of the best programs out there is The Spider http://www.fsm.nl/ward/

This removes the contents of your Dat files, and also lets you see whats inside them before you delete them. The program is free.

I also set my browser to empty the TIF on closing of the last browser. To do this, go to Tools | internet Options. Click on Advanced tab, then scroll down Security and you will see a box that is checked about this. Remove the check, apply and OK.

Bay- It does a much better job of it. Both of the other posts are good ideas but its my personal choice to do the deltree thing instead of adding another program to my system. I dont worry overly much about sites I have to sign in to. Do the search and check it out. Then decide.
