I am running Windows XP. Just installed Norton Antivirus 2005. A full scan of my computer found threats in the temporary internet files. Some were quarantined, some could not be fixed. I went to my browser (internet explorer) and under tools/internet options I clicked on delete files to empty that file. the browser stops responding every time I try this and I must "end task" to move on. Can anyone help me?

Are you sure it is actually not responding?
Sometimes (especially with broadband) the temp folder can get filled up very quickly. I've had a couple computers which have taken over 20 minutes to fully delete. It appears as though it stopped responding but it's not.

Can you hear activity in the computer or is the hard drive activity light still blinking when you close it out?

Well you can do it manually by going to Start > Run > type %userprofile%/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files. Then delete the files yourself. I would delete a few at a time.

Much thanks to Lemon Drop......I simply waited it out and that worked. Took 13 minutes but now that file is clear.
Internet Explorer Toolbar > Tools > Internet Options... > Advanced Tab. Scroll down to and check '' Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed.'' Press Apply, then OK.
