Every time I turn my computer on, the system32 folder pops up. It's not a big deal, but it's quite annoying. How do I stop this from happening?

I have searched alot on this topic, and the answers all involve very confusing steps on how to get rid of this. Any easy instructions on how to remove this would be great, as I'm not that computer-savvy.

We should make sure it isn't a virus

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Well, I don't see a virus.

And I don't see the entry for a usual suspect for this to occur.

So let's give this a try...

Go here: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Scroll down to 260.
You will see "Open New IE Window is Blank - Fix"
To the RIGHT of that, you will see "System32 Folder Opens Upon Boot"
Click on that and run the VBS file

Reboot and see if the problem happens again

I can't say for sure it will work, cause this normally a fix for XP and you have Vista. But let's give it a try.

It didn't work. It says "This script cannot repair your issue. The expected Registry value was not found."
Thanks for trying to help. Maybe I'll have my local computer repair shop see if they can do anything about it when I go to get my new video card.
