I downloaded and installed System Wiper and it worked grreat for a while. Then it started hanging up when cleaning the temp files. I un installed it and reinstalled it and the same thing happened again. It is a good application when it works. Anybody have any ideas about what is happening?

Hiya

It may be as its accessing the internet when its running:

Why does iISystem Wiper Pro contact the internet when it runs?
iISystem Wiper Pro contacts the internet because it is looking to see if there are new updates available. This automatic update check is the default setting for iISystem Wiper Pro. If you do not want iISystem Wiper Pro to automatically check for updates unselect the Automatically Check for Update box in the Options page.
http://www.iisoftware.net/index.php?faq.html#10

See if disabling that helps. Just don't forget to update it manually :)

Hiya 700

Fraid I haven't used it. In fact, don't use any, usually do it manually. Do you use Window Washer?

Used to use BCWipe years ago, but when you constantly 7DoD all files, I think it made my HardDrive die :(

Okay, lets see what you have running 'behind the scenes'

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

Its not that long a list, believe me :)

Lets see now....

SpywareGuard Startup: "SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware". Keep

iIWiper: System Wiper from iI Software - allows you to clear the history of your activites from you computer. Run manually on a regular basis. Not needed.

ScanRegistry: Keep

SystemTray: Keep

Norton eMail Protect: Proxy E-mail protection from Norton Anti-Virus (prior to 2002). If you have it installed, leave it enabled to automatically check for suspect attachments in E-mails that may contain viruses. It downloads the E-mail into poproxy, which serves as a proxy server on the local machine, before scanning it. Keep

NAV DefAlert: Norton Anti-Virus Definitions Alert. Warns you if virus definitions are out of date. Leave enabled unless you manually update virus definitions on a regular basis. Up to you

SynTPLpr: Synaptics touchpad driver helper. Required for touchpad features to work. Keep

SynTPEnh: Synaptics touchpad tray icon. Displays status and provides quick launch to touchpad features such as scrolling and tap zones. Required on IBM Thinkpads with UnltraNav (pointstick and touchpad combo) if you don't want to loose the advanced pointstick features such as scroll. Up to you

Norton Auto-Protect: Norton Anti-Virus's background scanning process. Can be inconvenient because it scans files when Run/Opened or Downloaded/Created and you can scan files manually via right-click after downloading/copying. However, in light of some of the viruses around these days it's probably best to put up with the inconvenience. Keep

SmcService: Sygate Firewall. Keep

Go to Run and type MSCONFIG, startup tab. Uncheck the ones you don't want, apply and restart.

The only one I don't need is NAV Defalert because I do updates almost every day. As for System wiper I didn't know that it added itself to the startup list and it is gone and the whole program may be gone soon also. That doesn't solve the current problem, maybe I should just do it manually

Lets have a look at your HijackLog:

go to www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Well, thats clean :)

In the meantime, you may want to look at this:

http://www.iisoftware.net/index.php?submitbug.html

If you have a look in the Temp folder in Windows Explorer, how much is in there? I'm assuming it is removing the files when you can get it to run

Hmmmm

I wonder if it produces log files. If you go to Windows Explorer, and locate the folder for it, under Program Files, whats in there? Is there anything like a log or txt or dat file that is very large?

Also, have you defragged your pc lately?
