Windows Me edition

I want to restore my pc to its original state because I have an evil blue screen error message. I need to use my cd drive but I cannot because I can only start in safe mode. Is there any way to access my D:/ drive while in safe mode?

If my memory serves me correctly, I do believe that all you have to do is pop the cd into the computer and reboot for the factory install to work. If your computer doesn't recognize the cd, you may have to check your settings in cmos to make sure it is set to search your D drive.

Using the recovery CD to revert back to day #1 is a drastic step to take, just because you are getting an error message. Error messages are a way of life with using Windows, but they are ways to minimize and prevent them from happening.

What is the exact text of the error message that you are receiving? Saying that it is an "evil" error message does not tell us anything.

Have you installed and run Ad-aware SE Personal 1.05 and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.3 and deleted all the "nasties" that they find? You can download them from the spyware tools section at http://www.majorgeeks.com

Have you gone into Search - All Files And Folders and deleted everything that appears under:

*.TMP

C:\TEMP\*.*

C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\*.*

Do you keep the number of programs running in the background trimmed down in the MSCONFIG "Startup" tab?

Getting rid of your computer's "nasties", keeping the temp and junk files cleaned out, and keeping the list of running programs to a minimum will make a BIG difference in how your computer acts and runs.
