System recovery not successful

I have an old compaq Presario. 2007 vintage. It has windows 7 pre-installed.

I recently had a few issues and decided to attempt a system recovery.

Recovery works, but when I restart I get a message - " this version of recovery.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. "

I have tried running recovery again. I have tried booting in safe mode, and I have tried using last good configuration, but whatever I do I end up back at the same screen.

I think the problem might be software rather than hardware. I don't have a Windows CD since it was pre-installed. If I have to spend £100 plus on repairs or software I might as well just get a new laptop, but I'd like to save this one if I can.

Any suggestions ?

What's the complete model number of that Compaq Presario?
What's the exact product number(P/N) on it?

If that computer was introduced or purchased in 2007, it couldn't have came with Windows 7 pre-installed in it because that Windows version didn't exist in 2007.
It would've came with Windows XP or Windows Vista pre-installed in it.

What exactly did you use to attempt a system recovery?

It is a compaq Presario cq71.

It has 2 labels on the laptop, one says Intel Celeron and one says windows 7.

I ran a system recovery by pressing f11 and using the hP recovery manager tool. I used the system recovery tool which is supposed to reinstall the factory shipped software.

When I restart I get the Windows starting screen. Then it goes to a screen that says operation completed successfully
Uia dump version 1 built Sep 26 2007

What I want to know is:
1. Is this something I can solve in cmd with a command prompt
2. Can it be solved with software (ie reinstalling Windows with a CD)
3. Is it something that could be fixed by a repairman

If you have a Compaq Presario CQ71 series laptop, we need to know its complete model number.
(A dash and additional characters after CQ71 comprises the complete model number)

There should also be a product number on one of its labels/stickers.

That series laptop appears to be 2010-era and not 2007-era.

Model is cq71_312sa
P/n vt262ea#abu

It may be 2010.

It originally came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and was introduced in 2009.

The "Troubleshooting - System Recovery, Backup & Restore" section should be helpful to you.
