OK, I am past the point of frustration. I have a Compaq system running Win XP Pro, IGHz, 128 MB SDRAM, Radeon 7000, 40GB Western Digital. The system kept locking up so I replaced the power supply (300W), the memory stick, hard drive, video card (with the above listed peripherals), got a new fan and heat sink for CPU, purchased and installed a new copy of XP Pro, updated all drivers and the stinkin' thing still locks up after a few minutes. What can I try next? Thank you!

Sounds like everything hardware has been replaced. :D Do you have any Iomegaware installed? Like for a ZIP Drive? Do you have any mouse software installed?

lol...well first off....read my name :p

2nd...i guess the hardware isnt faulty, but i would definitely recommend getting some more ram...128 on win xp is simply not enough...i have 1 gb of pc3200 ram.....never have slowdowns or lockups related to my performance :)

well id recommend defrag, virus check, spyware check....but you've clean installed....

other than that, check event viewer logs (control panel/admin tools/event viewer)....see if anything is wrong there...ive found that crappy network connections can lag a computer like that

I should also add; what devices do you plugged into any USB?

Another perhaps more likely cause to consider is excessive heat. I know you said you installed a new fan and heat sink. Nonetheless what is your CPU temperature right before the system freezes? If it's OK, start pulling/switching components to attempt to isolate the cause. If that doesn't produce any answers, may well be time for a new mother board.
