My system intermitently locks up and needs to be restarted. I did think it was a bad install of my previous OS (server 2003) or maybe a virus or something but I have since upgraded my OS and the problem is still cropping up, although less frequently. There is no error report created to give an idea of what has failed and the event log is no more helpful.
Obviously I realise this is a really vague problem which could be down to a number of reasons, so is there a program around which could analyse what happens when it crashes?
Cheers for any help on the really frustrating problem,

DG

Hi,
If you are thinking "virus" then I think you need to post a HJT (HijackThis) log and let a qualified member (gold shield next to their name) take you through what needs to be done. I suggest you print off this guide, just in case ....
Please go no further than the stages listed here for now.

Using Hijackthis with the self-installer that puts it into Program Files for you:

go to Click here to download HJTsetup.exe

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then save the log and then the log will open in Notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Now you'll need to wait for a qualified member to take you through the next stages. You'll get great help ...

Richard.

since this is a hw forum I'll take it from this direction, what are your temps, CPU idle and under stress like running Prime 95.
