System Crash When Accessing External Storage Drive Files

A problem has been plaguing me for some time now. I use a Western Digital MyWorld NAS 2Tb drive, set to Raid 1 with 1Tb live and 1Tb mirrored. I have multiple notebooks connected wirelessly to a home network. One notebook is connected via Cat 5 direct to the router. This notebook is the work PC. It also has a corporate cisco VPN client. When accessing the NAS drive with this machine I am able to explore the drive and its content and all directories. However, each time a modification is attempted, such as renaming a file or directory, or moving a directory or file to another location, the PC does a hard dump and crashes. I have spent hours with Western Digital on the phone. We have shut down all services and start up items using msconfig. All to no avail. Please help.:(
