Until recently I've had no problems backing up DVDs by ripping them onto my hard drive, then burning them onto a DVD. For some reason I can't work out, suddenly I just can't burn anymore! :( I'm not sure if it's a problem with software or hardware, so I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me.

When I'm ripping the movies, I use DVD Shrink. I've downloaded and installed the latest version, but this hasn't helped. To burn them onto a DVD (I have a DVD+R and DVD-R, the DVD-R has been dragged out of "retirement" to see if it was a hardware problem) I'm using Nero 6. I don't want to have to purchase Nero 7 unless it's a guaranteed fix for this problem, mainly because I'm more than happy with Nero 6.

As far as I can tell, DVD Shrink continues to rip the movies onto my hard drive without a problem. All the files appear to be there when I open Nero and drag/drop them into the video folder to burn onto a DVD. The problem starts when Nero is burning, or in this case NOT burning! It starts okay, says that the file caching is going fine, gets to 1% (just enough to "ruin" a DVD, sigh!) and then spits out a message telling me the burning failed.

This has so frustrated me for the past couple of weeks; has anyone else had this problem and know of a fix please? I've uninstalled both Nero and DVD Shrink and reinstalled to no avail. I've had hubby swap my newer DVD+R for my older DVD-R thinking it was a hardware problem, but that didn't help either. I now have BOTH DVD burning drives in my computer and STILL nothing will work!!

Can anyone help please?

Okay, it has to be a hardware problem ... I think! ;) About a week ago I downloaded DVD2One to give it a try, thinking my problem was software. I hadn't really got around to trying it out properly so I've just done that to see if it will work. I'm getting an error message on DVD2One as well ... "Write Data Failed. Sense Key 03,0c,00". I've emailed the "powers that be" on DVD2One's website to see if they can help me with why I'm getting this error message. I have a feeling they're going to say it's a hardware problem, since someone else has posted to the forums with a similar error, just different sense key numbers. COULD it be a hardware problem? If so, why has this suddenly started happening?!?

GRRRRRRRRR!! This is SOOOOOOOO frustrating!!!

Are these movies that you have made or does someone else have the copy rights?

Hi XPSP2 :)

Actually, both. We have home movies on DVDs that I'm trying to make copies of to send to family members. I'm also making backups of all the movies we own for safety purposes; hubby is military and we lost a few in our last move, which I don't want happening again next time we move! I'm also backing up our kids's movies for them to watch in the car. The instruction book for my car states I should use copied DVDs without labels to prevent problems with them jamming.

A bit more info on the problem ... I've tried using Alcohol 120% and it WILL work on CDs, they seem to be copying just fine. I just can't burn DVDs. I'm now wondering if perhaps this is a software issue?

Take care,

Robyn .

I'm going to close this and refer you to the TSG Rules. We provide no support for illegal movie copies, no matter what your intent is. It is against the law in the US to break the copy protection on commercial DVD products for making copies.
