Hi!

Yesterday my computer was infected with a virus that has hijacked Internet Explorer and keeps directing me to the same search page (located at http://www.nkvd.us/1526/) and won't let me get to any other websites. I also think I have a keylogger as well. I don't know much about this stuff so any help you guys could give me would be very much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!

Here is a my HijackThis Log:

Yeah I thought those were pretty obvious too. I removed all those through HiJackThis, however they are all back again! Here's the log again (after I removed the obvious):

Try this, its directly from Symantec.

Download the FxNetsky.exe file from: http://securityresponse.symantec.co...er/FxNetsky.exe.
Save the file to a convenient location, such as your downloads folder or the Windows desktop, or removable media known to be uninfected.
To check the authenticity of the digital signature, refer to the "Digital signature" section later in this writeup.
Close all the running programs before running the tool.
If you are on a network or if you have a full-time connection to the Internet, disconnect the computer from the network and the Internet.
If you are running Windows Me or XP, then disable System Restore. Refer to the "System Restore option in Windows Me/XP" section later in this writeup for further details.

Caution: If you are running Windows Me/XP, we strongly recommend that you do not skip this step.

Double-click the FxNetsky.exe file to start the removal tool.
Click Start to begin the process, and then allow the tool to run.
Restart the computer.
Run the removal tool again to ensure that the system is clean.
If you are running Windows Me/XP, then re-enable System Restore.
Run LiveUpdate to make sure that you are using the most current virus definitions.

Note: The removal procedure may not be successful if Windows Me/XP System Restore is not disabled as previously directed, because Windows prevents outside programs from modifying System Restore.

When the tool has finished running, you will see a message indicating whether [email protected] infected the computer. In the case of a removal of the worm, the program displays the following results:
Total number of scanned files
Number of deleted files
Number of repaired files
Number of terminated viral processes
Number of fixed registry entries

Restart in safe mode Click here to see how

Open My Computer. Go to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab. Make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Click on the link below to download CWshredder
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Run the program and let it do it's thing. Make sure to click on "Fix" and not scan only.

Look in C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder for these and delete them if they are present.
mtwirl.dll
mtwirl32.dll

Reboot and post another log.

If this works Thanks flrman1 ;)

First off, THANK YOU to everyone for your help! This is a great forum full of wonderful people, and I really do appreciate you helping out a complete stranger!

Okay I did everything above. I ran FxNetsky and was told that I was not infected with that bug. Then I ran CWShredder and I *think* it is gone! :)

But now in my desktop there is a file called desktop.ini. It was never there before (came up after I rebooted) and I want to delete it but am not sure if it's safe. Can I delete this?

And here is my HJT Log:

I'm not sure why that desktop.ini is there... I suggest you can delete it but do not empty the recycle bin for a few days.

To clarify what you did for future knowledge...
Did you run CWShredder in safe mode?
Did you find either of the dll files?

This is a rather new problem so it would help if you could give details.

Okay, I ran CWShredder but NOT in safe mode. I missed that part of the post due to being frantic lol.

I found the file mtwirl.dll in my Windows folder but I could not delete it because it says it was in use. So I rebooted the computer (in regular mode) and ran CWShredder again. Checked Windows folder and mtwirl.dll file was gone.

Also before I did this I disabled System Restore because I heard that the files will keep coming back unless I do that. I've enabled it again now that the problem seems to be gone.

Should I rerun CWS in safe mode?

Thanks for your help!
