A couple of slight problems.
Every time I log on my web browser takes me to my hme page although it is set at 'About Blank' When I close this down it asks me if I want to disconnect. How can I stop this happening?
Also, I am about to change from dial up (yep a bit slow) to broadband. Is it best to remove my old dial up programme? It also came with basic Norton security but I looked in Add/Remove progs to uninstall but can't find it anywhere??
Mny Thanks

What web browser are you using and how/where is it "set at 'About Blank?'"

Please do a search for "Norton" and post the results back here. Click Start→Search→For Files or Folders. On the resulting menu, click on "All Files and Folders." In the block "All or part of the file name:" type "Norton" (without the quotes.)

I appears that, although you state that your dialup "came with basic Norton security," the program is no longer installed. The above procedure is to verify what may still be there.

Do you have any other antivirus, firewall, or antimalware installed?
About blank is malware http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html here's how to remove it http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html download and run the norton removal tool for your other problem norton is rubbish http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 you will be far better off running one of the free ones avg 7.5 is good get it from here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/ there is also an avg anti spyware.
Whoa!! "about:blank" is also an address used to display a blank HTML document as the home page. Type it into your address window and it will go to a blank screen.

There is also about:blank...the homepage hijacker. I'm not sure we are to the point that we know that's the problem.
I'me having a bad day the wikpedia page is showing up as error it is not important anyway, my dictionary does not have the word disambiguation in it anyone know what it means.
From the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:

Main Entry:
dis·am·big·u·ate Listen to the pronunciation of disambiguate
Pronunciation:
\ˌdis-am-ˈbi-gyə-ˌwāt, -gyü-ˌāt\
Function:
transitive verb
Inflected Form(s):
dis·am·big·u·at·ed; dis·am·big·u·at·ing

: to establish a single semantic or grammatical interpretation for

In my words...that means the removal of an ambiguity. Or, To define a single meaning to a word, phrase, title, etc., which may have more than one interpretation.

There...now we're both smarter???

(I'm still not sure we need to remove anything having to do with about:blank. We need a little more information.)

phew chaps sorry if I started something here!!! I only have basic knowledge , but the 'About Blank' is normal. On dial up, it goes straight to my homepage which is BT.Yahoo. When I close this down it asks me if I want to end my connection? I know that somewhere I have to untick some boxes that will stop this happening, but I know not where. I am using Interenet Explorer and Norton is still installed but not present in Add/Remove progs. On Friday I change from Dial Up to Broadband and that also come swith Norton. So just trying to prepare my PC.
Many Thanks
