storage device.?

hey, is it possible for me to use my old hard drive as a slave for storing backups and music etc.? and can i store files on it if there is no operating system on it.? i was thinking i could format the drive and just sent my files to it without an os on it, is this possible.?

Hi mate!

Of course it is possible, you have to plug your old drive to your machine and make sure that Master/Slave jumpers are set correctly to avoid conflicts. Your OS will identify the drive and then you will be able to access files stored in it. If you want to reformat it you can easily do that from inside the OS with no problems. There is no need to have an OS installed on that drive.

To use an old hard drive for storage, well it is less stressful then asking it to boot but how old is it and in what condition is it? I would at least run checkdisk on it to be sure it is stable.
Run, "chkdsk /r", and then hit "enter"
