After installing a 1394 PCI card and video software, my cp hangs at the very begining of startup, as soon as the splash screen appears. It will not start in safe mode, also freezes. While starting up option 4 (confirm each step?), it gets as far as "Please wait while windows updates your configuration files". It then gets stuck in a loop, displaying over and over, "Setup can not update file %1 from %2".

Any ideas?

You might want to check out this article on restoring a previous registry HERE

Only thing I can find on that error is me blocks certain drivers that aren't compatible and resoloution is to get new drivers from manufacturer, not sure it applies, but a thought.

Thanks for the replies,

I tried replacing the registry, moved the video card to another slot, removed the video card, still had the same problem. The last time I did confirm each step startup, I left the cp while it was in the loop, trying to update the config files. After a little over an hour, it pulled itself out, and continued the start up. Everything seems fine now.
Go figure?

Thanks,

Dan
