I have Windows xp and my format is the one other than classic. I am having this annoying problem that every time I restart my computer however I have rearranged my start menu/most recently used programs list - it reverts back to the very original layout (i.e. with "tour windows xp" etc). I am hoping someone has a solution to this problem that doesn't involve me reformatting my computer again.

To use the Regedits: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.
