This is one of "those" subjects I always run into "heat" about...because I see things differently than most others about protecting your system from spyware, viruses, and browser hijacking.

If I say, "I don't use an anti-virus program, or a firewall," I'm called a fool waiting for disaster to happen.

When I tell people "just how I do" avoid viruses and spyware and browser hijackings, I'm told I'm a fool for using Internet Explorer...when obviously, the very "smartest" and "brightest" use FireFox.

It's all in the settings. All in Internet Options settings.

Have a look, and see what you think...

I commend you for your investigation into security, but with all the holes that get published in IE and Windows, I think I'll keep the firewall and all the tools that go with good security.
Your settings may stop online intrusion, but I have seen commercial software (mostly games) that calls home and in two instances this Christmas, came with trojans. The first notion of a problem was when my firewall stopped Explorer and IE from connecting to the internet. Adaware and Spybot detected the malware and deleted it. NAV missed both

My very first post at TSG was to warn members that a recommended free HTML authoring program, being discussed, had a trojan in it that I caught upon installation. NAV

So, no....I don't think it's safe being on the internet without appropriate security.
I'm not an IE hater, but I seldom use it any more because the tabs in FF are more convenient for me.

Thanks for posting the settings. I think it all helps

I view your post (together with the information you provide by means of the link) to be the most refreshing reading I have come across since joining this Forum a year ago.

Thank you for it.

Wow. What do I say to that? You're most welcome, aarhus2004. Thank you for saying that.

I would like to add one thing if I may. I am not--and never have--suggested anyone run their systems without a good anti-virus program or firewall.

I stated that I don't. That is all.

What I offer is something just as, if not more important to attend to.
