I don't know enough about computers to say but I can tell you my experience. First I have read that it is not reliable for all systems. I don't think it caused problems on my computer nor am I sure that it was accurate. Second, it did help me once. I had installed speedfan and just used it as a monitor to verify that settings remained the same. I had played with it a bit to see if it worked for the fan settings. Glad I had. Approx. two months later I ran the test my computer for games at system requirement labs using the link on the games page forum here which for some unknown reason is closed for comment. I have and play GTR2 racing game but site didn't have this game listed yet, new game, so I substituted GTR. Told me I can't play the game. Without leaving these forums, all of a sudden, my fans started coming on. My fans never come on except when playing GTR2. First there was a 5 min. interval between fan coming on and off. Then it was quicker. Finally always on. I checked speed fan. My settings had been changed to figures that I could not previously change to. Both fans had always been at 40%. Now one was at 65% and the other was at 57%. Did not matter what or how I tried prior to this, you could not make the fan run at a speed that was not a multiple of five. How it got it to 57% I don't know. So speed fan let me know that a change had been made. I have just finished doing a destructive recovery as I didn't know what else the test had changed on me and I didn't like the way my computer was running after this. I haven't heard my fan in the two days its been since recovery. They had a few things to sell me after running test for games.

Interesting.

I just loaded it and it just tells me Core temp and HDD temp and i can get the S.M.A.R.T. info for the HDD.

But my main screen shows no fans or fan speeds??

Depends on whether it will work with your motherboard and whether the fans are plugged into the motherboard. Speedfan is a good program, but sometimes gives you odd results as it checks a sensor that isn't there or just not plugged in.

Hi 325isbimmer,

You should still try SpeedFan despite XPSP2's post to see how it goes. Just run it in default mode. If your chips are recognizable by it, then it should display a temp icon in your system tray from which you can bring up the main display for fan speeds, temps for CPU, hard drives and aux (environment), and SMART displays.

The reason I recommend SpeedFan is that it is extremely lightweight on computer resources (given that it works for your computer). You'll just have to try it out to find out, and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Here are some alternatives should SpeedFan not work for your computer:

* SpeedFan (Monitor temps, hard drive SMART, adjust fan rpms)

* SensorView ($19.95 - personal)

PC Probe: (for Asus mobos only):
