If you install from the Windoze update site, it will install much like any other critical update . . just take a while longer to download. If you download from CD, it installs much like any program.

In both instances, it installs from within Windows as opposed to DOS ( which does not exist with XP)

You can download SP-1 here and save to CD for future installations:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/default.asp

You can also download a "rollup" of about 30 updates since SP-1 here:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=826939

There will still be 15 or so more critical updates to download after you have done these two.

Good Luck . . wrs

SP1 is most of the critical updates in one download. It will take longer to download, but the effects are still the same. It's really a timesaver, saving you the hassle of downloading each update and installing it. You can download it via download.microsoft.com or via the Windows Update option.
