Sony Vaio laptop not turning on

1001 Views 6 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  blues_harp28
Hey all,

Sony Vaio laptop version PCG-61112L
Model VPCCW17FX does not turn on. Laptop adapter light does not appear even when plugged into a power outlet. Tried using the battery, but laptop still does not start up. No noise from laptop and adapter.
Using Windows 7.

Is there something wrong with the adapter or hard drive or something else?

Is it possible to start the laptop without erasing the data/files inside?

Thanks all

Hi, it could be the power adapter if it does not light up when plugged into the power outlet. Or a faulty socket [where you plug in the adapter to the pc]
Buying a new power adapter may be your next best move.

Also you should be able to save any needed files and data from your hard drive by using something similar to this.

There should be cheaper ones available at pc repair shops.
Connect the hard drive to a working pc and you should see all of your data and files.

Thanks!!

If I buy a new adapter but the problem turns out to be a faulty socket, would the new adapter still work?

A newly bought adapter would still work but not in a faulty socket.

Most power adapters light up when plugged into the main supply.
Not lighting up would indicate a faulty adapter.
The easier method would be to use the IDE/SATA to USB 2.0 adapter.

Many thanks! I will have a look and see if I can do it myself, or need a pc repair shop to do it as I'm not that tech savvy haha
You can get a Sony Vaio laptop power adapter for approximately £20.
It may cost you that much just to walk into a pc repair shop, I jest of course.
