Sony Vaio laptop not turning on

Hey all,

Sony Vaio laptop version PCG-61112L
Model VPCCW17FX does not turn on. Laptop adapter light does not appear even when plugged into a power outlet. Tried using the battery, but laptop still does not start up. No noise from laptop and adapter.
Using Windows 7.

Is there something wrong with the adapter or hard drive or something else?

Is it possible to start the laptop without erasing the data/files inside?
