So, whenever I connect to my VPN connection, after a period of time, which ranges greatly from 5 minutes to some amount of hours, the Generic Host Process gets an error and crashes.

Then, of course, nothing seems to work properly and I need to restart my computer in order for stuff to work again. Now, I should stress that this only happens when I'm connected to my VPN via "Connect to" in the Start Menu.

Here is my HJT, although I'm not sure if it's relevant.

In the Control Panel, open the Administrative Tools, then the Event Viewer, and then click to select either applications or system on the left side, then click view, filter, and uncheck the box for information so you will only see the warnings and error messages, then look for a related type message to your problem, and just double click it to see details for it.

Download THIS, close the ports, restart and see if it works. The application is called Windows Worms Door Cleaner.

http://www.firewallleaktester.com/tools/wwdc.exe

According to some reading on the net you probably got hit with an exploit that affects your netapi32 DLL.

It ISN'T a virus or trojan issue. I recommend using the tool linked above, closing the ports, restarting your computer and getting a firewall if you don't have one. If you have an additional firewall (i.e. not the XP one) you can test it at www.firewallleaktester.com (very good resource).

Report back if that helps

I ran the SDBot and CueBot removal tools, as described in a thread I found elsewhere, and it came up with nothing. Also, other people who use a VPN on the school network do not have this problem.

I'm getting a bit desperate here.
