Installed WinME on new system, 80G HDD. Installed Zonealarm, IE, AVG.
Worked ok but now on shut down the desktop goes dim then bright. Then I have to shut down again. Got any ideas for a fix?

Have you put all the security updates and patches for Windows ME on yet?

Have made the updates. The screen goes dim for a few seconds then bright.
Shut down again then the screen goes blue for about 10 seconds then down.

Go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL and click on Power Options. Snoop around and see what your settings are. Make sure that Hibernate is not enabled. Look especially at the ADVANCED tab, and see what is set in the "when I press power off" window. Make sure it says 'Power off' and not 'Standby'.

Do you have all the ME updates installed? I'm wondering if there is some type of shutdown patch similar to the one for 98?

Tried shut down of task bar items and reboot.
Still have same problem.

Found the problem to be US Robotics software.
Shut down is now normal.
