I am trying to load Windows Xp on a Gateway laptop and it crashes at the same spot everytime - during the loading of devices at 34 minutes remaining I have changed the RAM and HDD, Is there a way to load Windows XP and not load devices?

You might try installing Linux just to rule out any hardware issues.

You might also trying to install a version of Windows XP PRO without SP2 (say one with SP1 only).

What model laptop are you using?

I doubt it is a bad disk but anything is possible. I know not what the make and model of your hard drive is but there is a possibility that the hard drive could have some bad sectors just where this info is to be installed. I would try the hard drive diagnostics for this drive and here is a page that makes finding this a bit easier:

When trouble shooting you always start with the basics and never assume anything.
