HELP!

A friend was having problems installing webcam 3 onto his PC. I discovered lots of missing files effecting installation and decided it maybe a good idea after removing the viruses and spyware to reinstall Windows 2000 professional back over the top.

When this was done windows starts up but continues in 'setup mode' with a progress bar running along the screen saying its installing devices as part of upgrade, your screen may flicker at some point etc. When it gets about half way it crashes with a blue screen saying system error Vobid.sys may be responsible with two lines underneath stating BF703380.

Even if you start in safe mode it still tries to finish the windows 2000 install so the same thing happens again! It could be something to do with the webcam 3 driver that only half installed but know I cant go anywhere or do anything to uninstall it.

If anyone's got any ideas I would be very grateful has he now has no PC and isn't too pleased.:down:

Rename vobid.sys in program files\pinicle and system32\drivers if present.

1)Reboot the system and press shift+F10 at the Blue screen to open a command window (recovery console)
2. type "cd system32" and press Enter
3. type "ren vobid.sys vobid.old" and press Enter
4. type "cd drivers" and press Enter
5. type "ren vobid.sys vobid.old" and press Enter
6. type cd\ and press Enter
7. type "cd progra~1\pinnacle" and press Enter
8. type "ren vobid.sys vobid.old" and press Enter
9. type exit

Thank you PC Wiz I'll go round and give this a go now. It does have Pinicle on there I believe.

I didnt know you could shift and F10 on the blue screen crash thought that was it!

PC Wiz you really are a PC Wiz I cant believe it but this worked!!!

Shift and F10 didn't work when the blue screen came up but before it I happened I had time to make the changes.

I was worried at first because step 3 above came up with the system cannot find the specified file. But by that point I had an idea of what I was looking for and sorted it.
