Solved: What's the best way to change the startup menu?

I know that I have too many programs running and I want to uncheck some of them in the startup menu. I don't even know what some of them are, e.g. 'ctfmon', 'MSASCui',....I used to do it in WIN 98 with success. I did it with WIN XP and I get this intimidating message from the System Configuration Utility that makes me feel uneasy that I messed with the startup menu. How can I stop programs from loading automatically that I don't want without getting the System Configuration Utility warning?
Thanks.

I would get Startup Control Panel and use it instead of msconfig, it's much easier to work with.

Then go to one of these sites to get more info on which startup programs are necessary.
