Hi,

I'm running XP, and was wondering how to find out what USB version I have in my PC; 1.0, 1.1, 2.0...

Just look at the USB port listings in the Device Manager. If it shows as "Enhanced USB" it is 2.0

Look for it by following these steps.

Start>Control Panel>System Icon>Hardware Tab>Device Manager Button>Universal Serial Bus Controllers

I only have these. Doesn't this meant I have 1.0 or 1.1?

USB 2.0 can be disabled in the BIOS so the best way to find out is to look up the motherboard on the manufacturer's website. Do you know the motherboard or computer model? if not use Aida32 Enterprise Edition to find out the Motherboard model: http://www.aida32.hu/aida32-download.php

If you want USB 2.0 ports you can buy a PCI add-in card with 2/4/6 USB ports.

A 3 year old computer will probably not have USB 2.0 on it. As the standard is not that old. It will however have USB 1.1

So i am assuming the basis for knowing it is 1.1 is only because my pc is 3 years old, and not because you found it on the website? I thought so. I'm happy i'm not going blind!

Thanks people! :)

Actually it is a little more than that. Looking at the url you posted it would have said that it had USB 2.0 if it did. But yes also it is the knowledge of the standard that helps make a call n this case. Now if you had said your Mobo was only a year old it would heave taken some research. Because a year ago you could get new motherboards with USB 1.1 and you could get Motherboards with USB2.0

The thing is if you do not have any USB 2.0 devices to plug up to this computer it makes no sense to buy a USB 2.0 card. USB 1.1 devices will not run any faster on a USB 2.0 port given the rest of the system specs.
