Hey all,
The other day my hard drive was making weird noises, and a chkdisk moved data from bad sectors to good ones. After this, however, some windows files were corrupted and I was forced to run a repair installation of xp professional. I got everything working fine, and proceeded to reinstall SP1 on the computer. After this, however, my usb mouse..and anything else plugged into my usb ports, failed to work. I tried looking in the device manager but there are no question marks or exclamation points next to the usb ports. They are all usb2.0 but even my usb1.0 devices arent working. I tried upgrading to sp2, but wtih no luck. Is there anything I should be trying? The ports are working during the POST, as the lazer in the usb mouse will light up..but once it hits the windows loading screen, the mouse/ports seem to go dead. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Reload the correct drivers for the motherboard.

Sounds like the default Windows drivers are not satisfactory. The original drivers were possibly lost in the failure.

I would not continue with that hard drive however, that is a sure sign of imminent failure.

Hi and thanks for the reply.
I put in my MB disk and installed the "nvida nforce2 drivers" which include the integrated audio for the mb...but no luck. I ordered a new hdd and it will be here on tuesday, I just wanted to make sure that there wasnt a problem with my XP disk/motherboard

Great news...I found the solution in an older post...all I had to do was go into device manager....show all hidden..and delete the USB controllers/storage devices. Thanks all :-D
