Unable to access some sites recently in IE6
Computer: Win98 with IE6

I've come across a a computer that is having troubles accessing certian sites - specifically a site using "https".

Standard Error - "This page cannot be displayed"/Cannot Find Sever error. But sometimes the page is partially displayed and then it shuts up with this message.

I haven't been able to check the SSL settings in internet browser.
(I will do this tomorrow)
Could this be anything else other than the SSL settings?

Follow up,
I verified Internet Explorer Advanced Options, Security, Privacy and Content tabs with my user. All appear to be ok.

Their problem is with https://webmail.rogers.com
(they get the page not found... or sometimes it partially displays)
I had them try to access https://webmail.att.net and they were able to get to it ok.

I tried the start/programs/accessories/system tools information/
-> menu bar - Tools - Internet Repair tool. - No Change.

I also tried the www.verisign.com/advisor/check.html and it checked out ok.

They ran that and rebooted.... and it did not resolve the problem.

Now I'm not sure where to turn next.

*** I think I'll revisit Starwaves77

Let me add some of the 'secure site issues' ideas still to try,
This one is high priority>

Go to Start / Run and type in one at a time>
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 rsabase.dll
regsvr32 schannel.dll

Click OK when you receive the message that DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded. Reboot, then try to access your secure sites,

And just a reminder to DELETE your 'hosts' file, go back to my previous post for that info,

One other possible point to reference:
Start / Run / SFC ......
Select 'scan for altered files' ,
Don't do anything other than making a note of any names it comes back with and post back, If it is continually bringing up file after file, click cancel,

Issue Resolved:
Turns out the user has High Speed "Lite" capabilities. The high speed software and the modem used to access the internet for this specific site are "not fast enough" quote: from the tech support individual at the ISP in question. (I guess it's unable to process and refresh as quickly as with High speed, although I would not have thought of this.)

Turns out the SSL settings for IE6 are correct. :)
Internet connection for the "Lan Setting" was changed "Proxy Server" was introduced "Http://cache" and port 8080. NOte: This appears to resolve the situation.

Appears that this is a know issue, although the first technical support individual I talked to last week was unaware of the issue or potential solution. (wasted a few days circling the farm so to speak).

Question: is the http://cache thing a common solution for other security issues or just this specific site, anybody know?

"Issue Resolved...., User Happy..., Knowledge Gained"

Please mark/report as resolved.
